🔥 TATA IPL 2025 Match 04, DC vs LSG - Match Report

Date: 24 Mar, 2025

Axar Patel-led Delhi Capitals clinched a nail-biting one-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants in Match 4 of TATA IPL 2025 at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam. In a game that swung like a pendulum till the very last over, DC managed to hold their nerve in a high-scoring contest to chase 209 — their highest successful chase in the history of IPL.

The star of the night was Ashutosh Sharma, whose unbeaten 66 off 31 balls guided DC to a miraculous win when all seemed lost. Nicholas Pooran's fiery 75 (30) and Mitchell Marsh's 72 (36) went in vain for LSG, while IPL debutant Vipraj Nigam’s 39 off 15 played a crucial role in DC's successful chase.

🎯 LSG Batting Brilliance

Axar Patel, leading DC for the first time as a full-time skipper, opted to bowl first. LSG openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh, both debuting for the franchise, started aggressively. Marsh raced to a 21-ball half-century, his fastest in IPL, while LSG reached 64/1 in the powerplay.

Nicholas Pooran joined Marsh and immediately punished DC bowlers, smashing 25 runs off one over from Vipraj Nigam. The pair added 87 runs, but DC bounced back as Mukesh Kumar removed Marsh for 72.

Rishabh Pant made his LSG debut but was dismissed for a duck by Kuldeep Yadav. Pooran continued his fireworks with four sixes off Tristan Stubbs, before Mitchell Starc dismissed him for 75. LSG lost momentum, eventually posting 209/8, thanks to late sixes from David Miller.

💥 DC’s Rocky Start and Spirited Fightback

Shardul Thakur rocked DC early with two wickets in the first over. They were reeling at 7/3 after losing Jake Fraser-McGurk, Abishek Porel, and Sameer Rizvi. Skipper Axar Patel and Faf du Plessis tried to rebuild but fell to Digvesh Rathi and Ravi Bishnoi respectively.

Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma reignited hope with a 48-run stand. Stubbs hit a massive six before being dismissed, bringing debutant Vipraj Nigam to the crease. Nigam’s fearless 39 and Ashutosh’s finishing skills brought DC within striking distance.

🏁 Final Overs Drama

With 42 needed off 24 balls, LSG’s spinners struck back. Digvesh removed Nigam and Bishnoi dismissed Starc. Ashutosh then launched an assault, hitting 6, 4, 6 off Bishnoi to reduce the target to 22 off 12.

DC lost Kuldeep Yadav to a run-out, leaving them 18 to get off 9 balls. Ashutosh’s calm under pressure brought it down to 6 off 6. A missed stumping and run-out gave DC a lifeline, before Ashutosh finished the game with a glorious lofted boundary over the bowler’s head.

⭐ Match Hero

Ashutosh Sharma’s 66* off 31 will be remembered as one of the great IPL finishing knocks. His timing, composure, and ability to find the boundary under pressure made the difference.

Equally impactful was Kuldeep Yadav with a miserly 2/20 in a high-scoring contest that helped DC pull things back in the middle overs.

📋 Brief Scorecard:

Delhi Capitals: 211/9 in 19.3 overs (Ashutosh Sharma 66*, Vipraj Nigam 39, Tristan Stubbs 34, Shardul Thakur 2/19)

Lucknow Super Giants: 209/8 in 20 overs (Nicholas Pooran 75, Mitchell Marsh 72, Mitchell Starc 3/42, Kuldeep Yadav 2/20)

Result: DC won by 1 wicket
